William & Elizabeth's Children: |
William was born abt. 1795 in Tennessee or Virginia. He married Elizabeth Elliston, December 21, 1820, in Davidson County, Tennessee. I found William on the 1820 Davidson County Census newly married with only his spouse. Their ages were 20-30 years which would be correct because they were married during the year. The 1830 Davidson County, Tennessee census has William Canady 30-40 years, wife 30-40 years, 3 boys under 5 years, 3 girls 5-10 years. A descendant of William's son John (Uncle Jack) said that William and his wife Elizabeth both died in 1839. The children were split up and went different ways. Some of them were back together in Jersey County, Illinois by 1850\60. It was said that Elizabeth had a brother Joe and her father is Joseph T. Elliston, but Elliston researchers cannot place Elizabeth in his family. A search of records in Davidson County, Tennessee for the parents of William and Elizabeth does not provide any positive proof. There is a John Kennedy that is believed to have came to Nashville shortly after the Donelson flotilla. His will shows him to have a son John and the 1820 census shows John Jr. with a load of children of all ages. There is not a will or any other record identified up to this point that positively connects William to John. There are documents showing William attending local auctions and estate sales. Also attending the same sales was Andrew Jackson, who became President of the United States. Apparently there was some influence, because the names "Andrew" and "Jackson" have been used to name his children and grandchildren.

The purpose of the Canida\Canada\ Canady\ and\or Kennedy Home Page: |
This page is intended to provide a location for family descendants and researchers to come together and reunite the distant branches. Please do not be offended if you find incorrect information, remember Genealogy is not an exact science. What is posted has been compiled from multiple sources and we welcome corrections to the database. Also within these pages the surname is spelled many different ways. Because of illiteracy, and many other reasons, there are currently three documented spellings being used, they are CANIDA, CANADA, & KENNEDY. I still expect to find another variation once current day descendants are found for William, Hugh, Wash, & Sean. If you are researching a spelling variation of this name, please give us a through look. Most persons with this surname have found it spelled multiple different ways, and normally it did not solidify to a single spelling until the early 1900s.

Descendants of William Canady and\or Kennedy & Elizabeth Elliston Book and Home Page: |
The idea of a book covering the Descendants of this family is my dream. I urge all descendants to compile and send their family lines to be included. A project of this magnitude requires a large amount of time and energy; compiling, verifying, and formatting, to publish this families history that is full of fascinating people and events. If you have family lineage, history, stories, photographs, or any other information, please contact me at the link below. I can accept typed, hand written, Family Tree Maker and GEDCOM file formats. To submit information to be included in this home page and eventual book, contact: email Audie Canida
