William was born in Tennessee abt. 1823. The earliest I have found him is in 1850 in Jersey County, Illinois census, where he was listed as William Canady, a shoemaker. He is living with his wife Betzey J., and children Manerva J. and John. His brothers Hugh, Washington, and John are living two farms away. In 1860 William is living with a new wife Jane. His children Manerva J. and John W. are living with them and he has a new daughter Mary A. His brothers Hugh and John and his sister Mary Anderson and her family also lived close to Martins Creek, Worth Twp.,Lawrence County, Arkansas in the 1860s. In 1870, William and wife Jane are living in Hazzlewood Twp., Webster County, Missouri. All his children are still living with them and he has a new son Rufus G. His brother John is living six farms away. In 1880, William was in Logan Twp., Wayne County, Missouri. He is a widower with his two youngest children Mary A., and Rufus G. living with him. His sister Mary Anderson and her family are living in Benton Twp., of the same county.

Continuing Research; I still have not been able to locate William on the 1840 Federal census. I also have never been able to find him in the 1900 Federal census, I suspect he died before the census. I am still looking for census and family information for William's children and to locate the final resting place for William. I have found some information for Canady's in Stodard County in 1900, but am having trouble connecting them to William.
